5          Roundtable Meeting

5          Program Kick-Off

23        Popcorn Kick-off

Program Kickoff

Our annual Program Kick-off will be Thursday, August 5th, 2010 at Main St. UMC at 7:00 pm.  This is going to be our August Roundtable agenda.  At the program kick-off, all units receive the new 2010 –2011 calendar, all of the dates for training, district events, council events, boy’s life calendars, tour permits, advancement reports, youth and adult registration forms, and much more.  Basically, everything needed to operate your unit for a year is in the packet we give out.  Every unit should have leadership attending this meeting.  It is for the benefit of the youth as well as for the success of the unit.  The materials included in the program kick-off packets are a service of the Long Cane District and Blue Ridge Council and are supported by our Friends of Scouting.

Popcorn

Please remember, our district POPCORN KICK-OFF is Tuesday August 23rd, 2010 at 6:30 pm at Main St. United Methodist Church in Greenwood.  This will be the official kick-off for all unit sales, meaning that all units may start selling the next day!  This fundraiser, if promoted and executed efficiently in your unit, can finance your unit for the entire Scouting year.  Let’s give it a big push and make it FUN!  Remember everyone FILL UP THOSE FORMS!!! We are going back to CLEMSON again this year. Let’s DOUBLE last years Clemson attendance by telling everyone how much fun and excitement you had with the players, coaches, rubbing the rock, and playing on the field.

Does your unit need Tents?  Does your unit need Backpacks?  Does your unit need Pots, Pans, Utensils, Grills, Camp Stoves, Ropes, Canoes, Kayaks, Traveling capabilities, First Aid Supplies, Lanterns, Storage containers, Water, Air, Etc.????  How about this, does your unit need MONEY?  Selling Popcorn can help provide all that you need to have the Best Unit In The Council!  Also, many do not realize this, but by participating in popcorn sales, you automatically meet one of the requirements for Gold Star Unit, and Gold Star Units receive free cloth advancements from the council office for one year…this is a fantastic money saver!  On top of that, you will receive a higher commission than 94% of councils Nationwide.  You can finance your unit for a whole year if you have a successful popcorn sale, which in turn lessens the financial impact on leaders and parents and also reduces the need for unit fundraisers.  It is not too late to sign up. Call Andrew Reale with any questions you may have!  Please plan on attending the August 23rd Kick-off and let’s make our Scouting Packs, Troops, Crews, Posts the strongest in the Council!

Fall Round-Up

Let’s all target our churches for setting church night recruitment dates.  This is an excellent opportunity to get more youth involved in Scouting.  All Boy Scouting Units, let’s open our doors to a Troop Open House.  Let’s all make every effort to have leadership in place before the school nights.  By securing all leadership positions over the summer, the fall transition is much easier and is more deserving for all new, and returning, Scouts.  Once again, if we can be proactive and secure leadership now, we will be able to keep more boys in Scouting.  Let Andrew Reale know now if you have any special requests for fall recruitment.  Remember, every boy deserves every opportunity to be in Scouting programs, and once he becomes a Scout, let’s make sure he stays a Scout, for this will stay with him throughout his life.

Boy Scout Summer Camp

Summer camp is well underway.  I hope your Scouts have had the opportunity to attend.  If you would like more information about camp’s benefits, please let me know.  Again, we will have seven separate but consecutive weeks of camp for this year’s Boy Scout Summer Camp at COI.

Thank YOU!!!

Thank you to all the devoted volunteers in the Long Cane District. You all made this an exceptional year for the boys and we all look forward to doing it again this year. Thank you!
