Leaders: Please order your value cards by January 23, 2009. The order form is part of the the Leader's Guide (see link below).
Dear Leaders,
It's time to kick off the 1st Annual Scout Value Card Sale, which is the Council's new Spring Fundraiser. We have secured 40 exciting offers, which value over $160! See sample of companies making offer (to the left). The cards are designed to be a very easy sell, as this format has wide public acceptance among other organizations. The 36% commission you earn from this sale will provide your Scout unit with the necessary funds to maintain a quality program throughout the Spring and Summer. Additionally, a fantastic prize program will reward your Scouts' efforts and insure your success! Please make every effort to have your unit represented at your District's February Kickoff, as outlined in this leaders guide.How would you like to earn money for your unit's program while saving on purchases at over 40 local merchants throughout the Blue Ridge Council? 2009 marks the first year of the Scout Value Card. This card will be available at your District Kickoffs in February for your Scouts to sell this spring. The card will sell for $ 10 and units will get a commission of the proceeds. The Blue Ridge Council, Boy Scouts of America, Annual Recognition Banquet will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2009, 6:30 p.m. at the Carolina First Center in Greenville. An outstanding program is planned that includes Silver Beaver Award presentations, the Annual Report, and presentation of the 2008 King Dixon Class of Eagle Scouts. This is a special Scouting night in Upstate South Carolina, and we know that you and your spouse will want to attend. Tickets are $35.00 each.

| Popcorn Wrap-Up 2008 |
 The popcorn has been delivered and your customers are happily eating their chocolaty caramel crunch in front of their fireplaces. All of the units selling popcorn this year did EXTREMELY well and we can't wait to see the forward momentum we will have for next year. | Character 2009 Family Membership Enrollment |
The Character 2009 Family Membership Enrollment process is the annual opportunity for a parent to support the big picture of Scouting in the Upstate by making a pledge to Scouting. Again, this year our intention is to reach each parent through presentations at Pack, Troop, Team and Crew gatherings from December 2008 through March 2009.
The Character 2009 presentations will make a dramatic impact on our ability to continue the implementation of the capital improvements for Camp Old Indian. | 2009 Blue Ridge Council Merit Badge College- January 24, 2009 |
Scoutmasters and Venture Crew Advisors don't miss out on the 2009 Blue Ridge Council Merit Badge College, which will be held on Saturday January 24, 2009.
The MBC is an opportunity to earn a Merit Badge. Scouts will be evaluated on the content of the MB. They should have read the MB pamphlet and should be ready to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding. (Be Prepared!)

| Camp Old Indian Staff Interviews- February 7, 2009 |
A SUMMER CAMP STARTS WITH A GREAT STAFF!!!!!!!!!
In order for you to be considered for a position on camp staff, you must attend a staff interview. Staff interviews will be held on Saturday February 7, 2009 at the Scout Service Center. Please wear your Class-A uniform. If you have any questions or need directions, please fee free to call Matt Kubler at 233-8363 or email mkubler@blueridgecouncil.org . To view the Camp Letter from our Camp Director, click here. If you are unable to attend on this date please contact Matt Kubler for an alternate interview date. To download the camp staff application, click here or they are available at the Scout Office and will be accepted prior to the interview process. Without knowledge of your interest all available positions will be filled.

 Hello, I am Dwayne Skinner: newest member to the Blue Ridge Council, BSA serving you as Reedy River District Executive. I am a proud son of South Carolina, where I was born, raised, and attended Francis Marion University in the Low Country. The Upstate has been home to my family and myself for the past seven years. My first few months have been both a challenging and welcoming experience. Blue Ridge Council Staff, volunteers, and especially the Scouts, have gone out of their way to make me feel apart of the Boy Scouts of America family. While serving you, my goal is to not only to become a part of a legacy of service and dedication within the Blue Ridge Council, but to continue to build upon it. | Bi-Lo Charity Classis Awards $15,000 to the Blue Ridge Council, Boy Scouts of America |
Greenville, South Carolina - The BI-LO Charity Classic recently awarded the Blue Ridge Council, Boy Scouts of America with $15,000 from the annual BI-LO Charity Classic. The donation was received on November 21, 2008 towards helping to support at-risk youth who otherwise would not be able to participate in the Scouting program.
"We offer our many thanks to BI-LO's commitment to the Blue Ridge Council, Boy Scouts of America and our community", said Mike Bernhard, Scout Executive. "We are very proud of our partnership with BI-LO and their generous support of our organization."
The BI-LO Charity Classic, now in its 26th year, has become the largest single-day charity tournament in the country, and has continued to grow each year. BI-LO distributes the funds raised in the tournament to non-profit organizations throughout the Southeast.
With headquarters in Mauldin, South Carolina, BI-LO operates over 220 supermarkets in South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee under the BI-LO, Bruno's, Food World & Food Max banners. The company employs 17,000 teammates. |
