| Camp Promotion Dinner 2009 |
Time is rapidly approaching for our annual Camp Old Indian Promotions Dinner. Messiah Lutheran Church (located at 1100 Log Shoals Rd. in Mauldin) will be hosting this fun and informative kick-off. The event will be held on November 13th beginning at 6:30 P.M. A barbeque supper and door prizes will help us get our camping season off to a good start! We look forward to sharing the dynamic program, hearing from some of our youth staff members and finding out about facility changes that make our camp so awesome!
The Leaders Guide will be distributed this year on CD. A paper copy will also be available for those who need a hard copy in traditional black and white print. The Leader's Guide answers frequently asked questions including every aspect of camp from merit badge classes to hiking trails. Each unit planning on attending Camp Old Indian, as well as units making their 2009 summer camp plans need to attend. Having a representative at this meeting will mean your unit will be informed and prepared for the upcoming summer camp season. After having a joint meeting and reviewing Camp Old Indian in general, we will break into Cub / Scout groups to hear the specifics of their Resident Camp.
On the attachment, please fill in the leaders names who plan on representing your unit at the kick-off dinner and check your preference of CD or printed hard copy and return to the address listed below no later than November 3rd so we will know how many to prepare for.
Troop Leaders remember that your $50.00 deposit is due in no later than November 13th to reserve your campsite. Non reserved sites will be available after the 13th. Call Traci at 864-233-8363 for the latest site availability.

| Scouting for Food |
Scouting for Food is when Scouts go out into the community and collect food items to donate to local food banks for those less fortunate. All Scouts should participate in this Food Drive. Scouts should do a good turn daily and this is a fantastic way for us to gain community service hours, and for the Scouts to be seen out in the community doing good things for people who need it.
In 2009 we will again have two Saturdays, February 7 and February 14, when we will collect soup, beef stew, chili, canned fish, canned meats, canned vegetables, canned fruit, peanut butter, and many other food items. We only ask that you not collect anything perishable or frozen.
There are several ways to participate in Scouting for Food. You can go out on the 7th and drop the bags off in neighborhoods, and pick them back up on the 14th. You can go out on either one of the Saturdays and collect the food as you go, or you can go out on both Saturdays and collect food as you go. The important thing is to collect the food so we can give it back to those less fortunate.
You may be wondering if there is a particular food bank to which you should give the food. Well, the neat thing about it is, your unit picks the place that you think will benefit most from the food. Examples are your local Salvation Army, your church, your sponsoring organization and other local food pantries.
So, how do you get involved with this great activity? You can pick up the bags at your Round Table Meeting starting after November. Call your District Executive to get more details. Keep in mind that when you are picking up the bags, you need to get as many as you think you can distribute. Larger units will obviously need more bags.
Please plan on participating on February 7 and/or 14, 2009, in Scouting for Food. Together we can do a Good Turn for America. |

There are many youth and adults throughout our Council who would love to be part of the greatest Scouting event of the century! However, to be included, you must reserve your place in history TODAY!
The 2010 National Scout Jamboree will celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Scouting in the United States on July 26 - August 4, 2010, at Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia. We are so fortunate to have a very capable Council National Jamboree Chairman, Jay Best, who has assembled a terrific group of adults to lead our Council contingent.
If you know of a Boy Scout or Varsity Scout who would like to attend, please encourage them to visit the following web page as soon as possible: http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001ZrTAfPX2AjcoxrHwT7BMNXO2DvDa7MmIT3ov5L138VpVdgEnlkuRL_qzwifREN2Cf-WsWcx1HCzrQe-EwxmE10SqSy4fp7IgbJe6wr_6ryfob5e6eh60-A== .
