Some comments from parents and Scouts:
"I thought it was AWESOME!" "It was a great experience! I would definitely go again and would highly recommend it!"
"It was an incredible day my son and I got to spend together, and I know we will never forget it." "I can't believe all they let us do there" "My boys LOVED Clemson day!"
We are currently in the planning stages once again with Clemson University and University of South Carolina for the Fourth annual "Sports Clinic with Clemson University Coaches". Now is the time to begin securing your Unit Popcorn Chair, signing your unit up for the 2009 Popcorn Sale, planning your unit kickoff, and setting your per boy sales goal. All forms will be mailed to Unit Leaders the week of May 18, 2009. We challenge every Scout to fill up at least one take order form in 2009 to be able to experience the fun and excitement of the 2009 Sports Clinic.
There will be more student athlete participation, more clinics, and a whole lot more to see!
We are trying to make this event bigger and better each year by adding something new and fresh for you and your family to see.
Popcorn sales is the single best way to generate money for your unit. More money means more program for your Scouts with less out of pocket expenses for parents. There is no upfront cost for your unit and the Blue Ridge Council will provide all the training and support you need to be successful. Remember to encourage your Scouts to fill up at least 1 take order form in 2009.
Fourth Annual Sports Clinics with Clemson University and University of South Carolina Coaches and Players for all Scouts who fill up 1 order form! | BSA 100th Anniversary- National Hall of Leadership Nominations |
Do you know of an outstanding Scout or Scouter in the Blue Ridge Council? Nominate them for the BSA's 100th Anniversary National Hall of Leadership.
Nominations to the National Hall of Leadership are now being accepted and close on February 8, 2010. The final inductees to the National Hall, a total of 303 - one representing each BSA Council and one selected by the National BSA Council -will be announced at the BSA National Annual Meeting in Dallas during May 2010.
The 100th Anniversary National Hall of Leadership is an opportunity for anyone to recognize outstanding leadership by a Scout, registered Scout leader, or Scouting volunteer who made a significant difference in the lives of others by the extraordinary service they have given and the Scouting virtues they have modeled.
A nominee must be:
* A living Scout or Scouting volunteer, who may or may not be currently registered with BSA. However, all youth nominees must be a registered member of the BSA.
* Must have served as an active Scout or Scouting volunteer within Scouting for at least one year. Those nominees recommended to the Blue Ridge Council do not have to be individuals involved with our Council but must currently live within our boundaries. Otherwise, they should be nominated in the Council where they now reside.
* Nominees may be young or old; there are no age criteria.
Nominations will be submitted using a form available online and consists of a story that is 450 words or less describing why the person is worthy of induction into the National Hall of Leadership. Through a panel of judges, the Blue Ridge Council will choose 12 local nominees. Those 12 persons selected by the Council will then be considered by the judges of the National Council who will select one inductee from the Blue Ridge Council for the BSA's 100th Anniversary National Hall of Leadership. Just being nominated is an honor!
If you have any questions in this regard, please contact Michael Thompson at Thompson1994@msn.com .
Beginning now, nominations are entered through the National Hall of Leadership section of the 100th Anniversary website at http://ww2.scouting.org/100years/100years/NHOL_NominationForm.aspx. |
| 100th Anniversary of Scouting |
In February 2010, the Boy Scouts of America will celebrate 100 years as an organization. Founded as an outlet to prepare every eligible youth in America to become a participating citizen and leader, BSA has more than fulfilled its mission. Today, as we celebrate our first 100 years, we not on only reflect on our rich history, but lay the foundation for a strong future, as well. | A Century of Values - Nationwide Tour |
" If you are going to celebrate a 100th Anniversary, do it in a big way." That's the philosophy of six adult volunteers from Michigan who visited the Blue Ridge Council during a unique 45,000 mile, year long road trip, helping all Boy Scout Councils throughout the United States kick-off their local celebration of 100 years on Scouting's role in character and leadership development.
Dubbed "A Century of Values," the road journey teams launches their official kick-off in Laingsburg, Michigan on February 8, 2009. The caravan is winding its way across the country in a 32 foot colorfully decorated one of a kind motor home donated by Coachmen Industries, and stopped at the Blue Ridge Council on April 20. The caravan is scheduled to end its tour in Irving, Texas at the National Boy Scout Museum on February 8, 2010, the 100th Anniversary of Boy Scouting in America.
At each of the 300 plus Council stops, team members present a mural depicting famous individuals, places and events in Scouting history created by illustrator and Eagle Scout, Bill Morrison. Our Blue Ridge Council Scouters had the opportunity to share history, hear stories, tour the caravan and kick-off our own 100th Anniversary Celebration, as team members present to our Council one of the framed 24" by 36" anniversary murals.

(Traveling "A Century of Values Caravan stops at the Blue Ridge Council Service Center on Monday, April 20, 2009 at 9:30 a.m.) |
