Cub Scouting Information and Resources
This page and its resources will be dedicated to Cub Scouting and helping volunteers at the Unit and District Level to serve our young men in Tigers, Wolves, Bears, and Webelos.
Below are links that should help leaders strengthen their Pack's leadership and programs:
The Pack's First Three Months
Below is a summary from the beginning of "The Pack's First Three Months":
This booklet will help you get your new or reorganized Cub Scout pack off to a great start. First impressions are important—and especially in Cub Scouting. If the first few meetings are fun—for you and for the Cub Scouts—everyone will want to come back for more. And with a good start and everyone feeling enthusiastic, future meetings will get easier and easier.
Equally important to a good start is Cub Scout leader training. If you haven’t already, take a look at the Cub Scout Leader Fast Start videotape (No.AV-01V022) for your volunteer duty before your first meeting. Fast Start will complement this book by providing you with an idea of what Cub Scouting is all about and what happens at meetings. You’ll also want to find out about Cub Scout Leader Basic Training, which will give you more insight into the wonderful world of Cub Scouting. Leader Specific Training consists of two components —New Leader Essentials, which is completed by all leaders, followed by position-specific training, based on your leadership position in the pack. Take advantage of these and other training opportunities as soon as possible!
The first impressions made on young men joining Cub Scouting are critical! The booklet is available in Adobe PDF Format via the link below the summary. The booklet is 36 pages long - which might seem like a lot of information, but it is divided into the following categories:
Let's Get Started (3 Sub-sections: The Essentials, Program Planning, More About Den Meetings)
Cub Scouts All - First Month's Pack Meeting
Exploring Your Neighborhood - Second Month's Pack Meeting
Cub Scout Circus: Third Month's Pack Meeting
Supplemental Materials
Each of the sections above has detailed plans for each of the Cub Scout Program areas: Tigers, Wolves, Bears, and Webelos. If you are a leader or parent of one of those groups - you can go right to that section.
Click here to go to the link on the internet and view "The Pack's First Three Months" as an Adobe PDF File.
Note: Once you have opened the link - it will give you the option to save the file to your computer (by clicking on the "disk" icon in the upper left-hand corner of the page). Please be aware - the entire file is 7.14 MB and will take quite a while to download depending on your internet connection speed.
Pack Leadership and Membership Inventory
The document that the below link will take you to (MS Word Format) can help new and existing Packs. It can help you to:
Keep track of Cub Scouts in their Dens.
Manage Den size and be an early warning if Dens are too small (might need to be combined), or too big (might need to be split).
List Pack Volunteer Leadership - and see what other positions need to be filled.
Track if boys are truly active in the program, and if not - to be a discussion tool to see how to get them active again!
See some programs that might be prime for new membership recruitment.
The Pack Leadership and Membership Inventory should definitely be used when a Pack is preparing to do their recharter paperwork, but it can also be used throughout the year to ensure your Pack is strong and healthy!
