National Jamboree

 2017 National Jamboree

The Blue Ridge Council is in the planning process for the 2017 National Scout Jamboree. This Jamboree and future Jamborees will be held at Summit Bechtel Family Reserve in West Virginia. Even though this event is still more than three years away, it is critical for us to establish the adult leadership, which will lead our troops and crews to this once in a lifetime event. The arrival date for this Jamboree will be Wed. July 19thand the departure date will be Friday July 28th. Cost are not finalized at this time, but are believed to be similar to those in 2013, (~$1500).

We are asking that any scout leaders interested in becoming a Troop or Crew Leader for the 2017 National Jamboree, submit the attached application with your personal and scouting information. Our goal for this Jamboree is to fill at least 4 troops and 2 Venture Patrols. Troops require 36 boys, three adults over the age of 21, and one adult between the ages of 18 and 21 years old at the time of the Jamboree. This 18-21 year old will serve as a Third Assistant Scoutmaster. Venture Patrols typically consist of 10 scouts and 2 adults, (we can send co-ed crews, as long as we have co-ed leadership). Please note - All leaders will be expected to recruit scouts to fill our troops and crews.

A Council Leader Selection Committee will convene in the near future to obtain the commitment of four individuals to serve as Scoutmasters. Shortly thereafter, the committee will meet with the Scoutmasters and Crew Advisers to select the Assistant Scoutmasters and Associate Advisers for each of the Council's National Jamboree Troops and Crews. The Council Jamboree Committee will select the Third Assistant Scoutmasters at a later date, (closer to mid 2016).

The Boy Scouts of America require each person applying for a Jamboree position to meet certain requirements. A list of these requirements is attached. Please share this information with all of the leaders in your unit and District, so that anyone who is interested may have an opportunity to apply.

All applications must be submitted to the Council Office (1 Park Plaza, Greenville, SC 29607) no later than Monday, June 16, 2014. Thank you for all that you do in scouting, and we hope you will consider taking advantage of this great opportunity.
