This privacy policy describes why and how we collect, and process information provided to or collected by us through the websites and applications where this privacy policy is posted. We take great pride in the relationship of trust we have built with our members, leaders, volunteers, donors and others over many years.  We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal information in a transparent and secure manner.  We follow this policy in accordance with local law in the places where we operate. This policy is effective as of the date above and may be changed by us in accordance with the procedures described in the Changes section.

Who We Are

As used in this privacy policy, “we”, “us” or “our” refers to the Blue Ridge Council. Our main headquarters are located at One park plaza, Greenville South Carolina 29607. We offer various programs, activities, train youth and offer outdoors skills, through a variety of activities such as camping, aquatics, and hiking.

Note regarding definitions: The following terms, as used in this policy, have the following meanings:

  • “Personal information” means information that identifies (whether directly or indirectly) a particular individual, such as the individual’s name, postal address, email address, telephone number.
  • “Feedback data” means information that user submits after attending activities that cannot be reasonably used to identify, an individual person.
  • “aggregate data” means information that is generated from feedback data and personal data to analyse and review Feedback data, which does not identify and cannot reasonably be used to identify an individual person.

What We Collect

We collect two basic types of information – personal information and Feedback data – and we may use personal information and Feedback data to create a third type of information, aggregate data. For example, we collect:

  • Membership information you provide when you join the Blue Ridge Council, either as a scout, youth member or adult volunteer, including your name, email address, phone number.
  • Registration information you provide when you create an account or sign up to participate in one of our events or activities, including your name, email address, password.

How We Collect Your Personal Information

We collect personal information from various sources:

  • Directly from You: When you register for an account, subscribe to our newsletter, fill out a form, participate in a survey, or contact us
  • Cookies: When you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

    When you visit our pages, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

  • From Third Parties: We may receive information about you from third-party services, such as social media platforms, if you choose to connect your accounts with their help.

How We Use Information

Consistent with applicable law and choices and controls that may be available to you, we may use information collected from you to:

  • Provide you with the products, services, and/or information you have requested.
  • Manage, accommodate and administer your needs (e.g. Camps, Activities).
  • Deliver relevant offers and promotions for our programs, events, products and services or those of a third party, based on your activity on our websites or applications

Your Controls and Choices

You always have the choice to not provide your personal information to us or change your information anytime, but consequently you may not be able to receive information about programs or activities. Certain level of communications is mandatory for all registered adult volunteers and others attending or participating in certain Weekend Council events or Summer Camps.

Data Retention

We will retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected, including for the purposes of reporting requirements.

Security of Your Personal Information

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, alteration, or destruction.
